So many people, couples, and friends celebrate love on Valentine’s Day. Sometimes you want to plan something extravagant and sometimes you just want something simple. Either way, I know it can get expensive and hard to come up with ideas, which is why I’m showing you some fun activities for the special day!

You are going to see super simple ideas and some that require a little more planning, but all are budget friendly and will make whoever you’re celebrating with (including yourself) feel loved!

This post is all about Valentines Day on a budget!

Exciting Ways to do Valentine’s Day on a Budget

1. Picnic

Going on a picnic might be one of the simplest ideas for Valentines, but it shows a lot of thought. This doesn’t necessarily have to be in a park, either. It can be on an overlook of a hike or even the beach! You’ll need a picnic basket, blanket, utensils, and of course, food! You’ll probably have most of those things, but in case you need a picnic basket, here’s a recommendation! It comes with utensils as well as a few other things you night end up needing.

2. Beach Day

Depending on where you live, the beach might be pretty close, and if it is, you should DEFINITELY plan the day or night there. Make sure everyone involved enjoys the beach though! If you wanted, you could even have your picnic here.

The beach can be such a calming place and often times you can catch some of the most beautiful sunsets, which would be a beautiful way to end Valentine’s Day. You could even bring date night snacks and drinks, just double check you beach allows it!

3. Home Cooked Meal

Not everyone loves cooking, but cooking on Valentine’s Day at home could save you SO much money! Whether it be brunch or dinner, it’s definitely more budget friendly to cook a nice meal at home. You could even get a whole bottle of wine for the price of 1 or 2 glasses at a restaurant (score!).

There are so many amazing recipes out there and it can be so much fun to cook with your person and make those memories together. If you want to spend even less time in the kitchen, try going for an InstantPot. This one here has made my life so much easier and is perfect for two people! I promise, it is so worth the money spent. I would never go back to not having one (even for every other day of the year besides Valentine’s Day!).!

4. Hanging With Other Couples

Hang out with other couples on Valentine’s Day?! What?! Hear me out, there’s no reason to isolate yourselves JUST because it’s Valentine’s Day. It’s about sharing and celebrating love, which doesn’t only include a significant other. Galentine’s day is an example of this!

Valentines day on a budget is also even more possible if you include another couple because then everything is split in 4 or people can bring over things or food which cuts down the costs all around. Even if you wanted to go out and do something, sharing the special day with other people just brings more love into your life.

5. Bowling

I am a bowling advocate all year round. It’s just so much fun, even if you’re terrible at it. The atmosphere of a bowling alley when it’s full of people is just something to enjoy. Even on a quiet night, it’s just an easy going activity to do with someone else!

Now, bowling can definitely be expensive, but if you can find a weekday special or a Valentine’s Day deal, you can bring your costs down significantly! This could also be an activity you do with another couple (see #5!) which would bring the cost per person down.

6. Go Somewhere Meaningful for Valentines Day

Obsessed with a place you went on a date night, where you met, or even where you got proposed to/proposed? Go to that place if you can and create some new memories there! The place is probably really meaningful and a special part of your relationship, so why not integrate it even more into your lives? It could even become a tradition of sorts.

7. Movie Night

Last but certainly not least, have a movie night! This can be done in so many different ways. You could go to the theatre and see a double feature, or rent out some movies, or find something on streaming! You could even rent a projector. I like this one because if you don’t have DVDs or don’t want to hook up a bunch of stuff on your phone, you can hook up other things, including a video game console or a Streaming Stick, like the Amazon FireStick or Roku.

Any way you choose to do a movie night can be really romantic. You can keep it simple or spruce it up with some fun popcorn buckets (these are my personal favorite as they are reusable and similar to the ones at the theatre!) and other things to make the experience more personable. It really is such a great way to spend time together on the special day.

This post was all about how Valentines Day on a budget is TOTALLY doable. The day doesn’t have to be just going out to a nice dinner or date night, unless you want it to be! The “norm” doesn’t have to be your norm and doing on of these activities is a sure way to change up your Valentine’s Day this year.
