Cheap Spring Break Destinations for College Students

Every year around March and April people look to travel for Spring Break. With airfare rising, a lot of college students are looking for places that are a little cheaper to travel to and visit. I know it can get expensive (having traveled all 4 spring breaks in undergrad) and that’s where this blog post comes in handy!

I’m going to tell you about a few different places you can travel to that won’t break the bank, but will still allow you to have as much fun as possible during your vacation.

This post is ALL about Cheap Spring Break Destinations for College Students.

FANTASTIC Cheap Spring Break Destinations for College Students!

1. Budget Spring Break Trips Location 1 – Nassau, Bahamas

Budget Spring Break Trips

If your spring break is in April, this is the BEST month to visit the Bahamas (March isn’t far behind!). Not only are the beaches BEAUTIFUL, but there is such a diverse and rich culture in the Bahamas that should not be overlooked. Not to mention the FOOD!

You’ll never run out of things to do in the Bahamas, from seeing Hollywood film sites to watersports. If you’d like, check out some neighboring Caribbean islands for other cool destinations to travel to! The hotels and other stay options here also are fairly cheap so if you’re going with other people, it’s even cheaper, which is awesome.

2. Budget Spring Break Trips Location 2 – Puerta Vallarta, Mexico

Budget Spring Break Ideas

Our first Mexico destination! This one is for the more relaxed budget travelers. This affordable coastal town boasts stunning architecture and sunsets too. While there is so much to do that is slower-paced, there is still a VERY active nightlife scene in this town. It literally has everything!

A theme that will continue to come up is food, and this town has some of the BEST food in the country. With dinner meals typically being under $15, you can definitely spend less than $30 on food (not including drinks) a day here and not break the bank.

There’s so much to see here with the landscaping as well if that’s what you’re looking for. You can sit on the beach, go hiking, or even check out the rainforest. You’ll be booked and busy in this little cheap spring break destination for college students.

3. Budget Spring Break Trips Location 3 – Savannah, GA

Budget Spring Break

This charming city was the first in Georgia and is known for its nightlife in the Historic District. Now, I might be biased having lived there, but there’s a reason it’s one of the most popular destinations for Bachelorette Parties. From the option to drink on the streets (within the boundaries!) to late-night bar hopping to a beach 20 minutes away, there’s really no way to beat this beautiful southern city.

Additionally, the hotel and AirBnB options are readily available since this city is so touristy. There’s definitely something here for everyone. Be sure to go to some local food places too, you will NOT regret it.

4. Budget Spring Break Trips Location 4 – Puerto Peñasco (Rocky Point), Mexico

cheap spring break destinations

Next on the list, is a VERY popular (and cheap) destination with Southwest college students known as “Rocky Point”. This destination was very popular when I was in school in Arizona because it’s so accessible via car if you don’t want to fly. There are SO many resorts and hotels to pick from and you’ll be in good company with lots of other people looking to get away for Spring Break.

If you’re going into town to get souvenirs, make sure you learn a few words in Spanish or have someone with you who speaks Spanish because it makes everything so much easier, even though you can get by mostly with English.

And if your Spring Break is in March or early April, you have a pretty good chance of catching sight of some whales while whale watching!!

5. Budget Spring Break Trips Location 5 – Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

cheap spring break destinations outside the us

Last but not least, Cabo San Lucas, or just Cabo. One of the more popular locations in Mexico, it is known for its cobblestone streets and the historic art district, among other things. It’s definitely similarly priced to its Eastern counterpart Cancun. Either option is GREAT for budget traveling, but Cancun is totally more party-vibes if that’s what you’re going for.

Cabo has so many options off resort/hotel for food which means you can explore the city or neighboring cities to get more out of your trip too. If you’re on the West Coast, this is a great option to check out, especially if you have a big group tagging along!

6. Bonus Budget Spring Break Trips! – Staycation in your town/neighboring town

inexpensive spring break destinations

Surprise! We’ve got one more on our inexpensive spring break destinations list. This probably isn’t what you were expecting, but that’s exactly why it’s on this list. Depending on where you live, there could be so much to explore in your city or somewhere nearby.

Try looking into areas you haven’t been or haven’t explored that much and see what kind of vacation stays there are. Be a tourist in your town! For example, if you live in Savannah, look into Tybee Island or even a hotel on the River or nearby. Do some sightseeing and explore what you probably never would have.

This post has been all about cheap spring break destinations for college students. Spring break costs can easily rack up and if you’re really itching to get away, these were some options to help keep costs down low.
